Session 9: The Reason of Being in Port Springs (10
Baston Sun 784 to 22 Baston Sun 784)
Upon arriving at Port
Springs, the crew meets with Daane and the returning Captain Evanni.
Daane talks to everyone and decides he will help Cluade and Xavier
on their quest to find Solaris. Roland, eager to meet up with
his brothers Haas and Lennie, who he has not seen in years, decides
to go with them when he learns they are going to Port Springs.
The four spend the day looking for transport to Port Springs.
Elsewhere, a young
human from the Main Continent is accosted by members of the
Brotherhood of the Unbroken Sword, who try to convince him to join
their cause. He thinks about it and decides to accept their
invitation of a night's stay after they say they will look for
Solaris, for whom this young man named Saren is also looking.
The next day, Daane
and friends happen to eat at the same inn as the Brotherhood and
Saren. The always nosey Daane overhears their conversation and
butts into it. Saren comes over and talk with Daane. The
Brotherhood is insulted by Daane's actions. Daane doesn't help
the situation and Roland hides. The leader of the Brotherhood
at the inn challenges Daane to a duel. Daane accepts and they
head outside. The crowd, filled mostly of members of the
Brotherhood, forms a circle. Daane quickly defeats the man.
A rock is thrown and a brawl starts. Roland and Claude quickly
end it by incapacitating half of the men. The group flees to
the Mountain Venture, where Daane has found passage to Port Springs.
They leave the next day.
On arriving in Port
Springs, it does not take long for word of Daane's return to spread.
The group learns that Solaris has just arrived in the city.
Within a day, the group from Port Phiam meets up with: Ajax,
Solaris, Haas, Lennie, Vega, and Cobalt. They tell stories,
introduce new friends, eat and drink. The next day, they go to
Vega (formerly Allar's) estate to talk and deliver Claude's message
to Solaris. Saren introduces himself to Solaris, who tells him
that he has a mission for the young man.
Once in the cavern
below the estate, Claude tells Solaris to burn the picture that
Claude was given of Solaris. The smoke from the fire creates a
disembodied head which delivers a message of warning to Solaris to
ignore Hemator and not go on the current quest, but rather go to
Pacyr. Solaris considers it. Roland decides, after
talking to Haas, that he will continue his mission to deliver the
word of warning to temples and shrines of Tyrogatore all of the
world. Daane and Xavier decide the mission of the clerics of
Tyrogatore is not theirs and they leave as well. The
disembodied head also said that the deliverer of the message should
go on the current mission of Solaris, so Claude remains.
The next morning,
Ajax, Solaris, Claude, Seran, Haas, Cobalt and Lennie are called to
speak with the new regent. Ajax had been trying to gain an
audience with the regent for months. Once there, they are let
in, but forced to wait in an unprepared room as they were not
expecting someone of Lennie's size. The regent and two guard
arrive to talk. He introduces himself and begins to greet
everyone. When he reaches Solaris, electricity slams into the
regent's body. He is knocked to the ground and paralyzed.
The guards sound the alarm and attack.
The group does not
want to hurt the guards and tries to persuade and hold them.
When Ajax grabs one of the guards, the guard slips from his hands
and changes into a swarthy human. Ajax knows him to be his
nemesis, an assassin known as the Kingtaker. The guards drag
the regent out of the room as the group swarms over the assassin.
Saren manages to disarm the assassin, who looks to be holding one of
the Slaying Daggers of Dedestroyt. Outnumbered, the assassin
tries to escape but is cut off. Ajax closes the doors to the
keep. The assassin is finally forces to teleport away, knowing
that the constables can track his magical movement.
The group goes
outside and Claude helps the regent. Klek and the constables
arrive and are sent off to find the Assassin. The regent asks
everyone to come inside where they can talk after some temporary
protections are placed on the keep.
Session 10: Faith Leads Them East (22 Baston Sun 784 to 30
Baston Sun 784)
The group discusses
the situation with the regent, who has little information for them
about what goes in outside of the city. After nearly insulting
him, they leave and make their way back to Vega's home. They
realize that most of the shrines of Tyrogatore are in Nomagrok, not
the Dwarven Kingdom, much to the chagrin of Ajax. They decide
to use Cobalt as their guide and let Solaris' prayers guide them.
After locating a entrance into the underground wilds with Vega's
help, they leave the next morning.
Using that method,
the group moves through the underground. Cobalt leads the way,
using the stone to help guide him. Every night Solaris prays
for guidance and receives it. Ajax becomes more irritated with
Cobalt and Drunnbar. After a week, they find a lone figure's
tracks. Assuming it is a spy, they give chase. While
running down a corridor, Cobalt, Lennie, Claude, and Saren
disappear. Claude reappears and Haas dispels an illusion.
Before those that remain is a great chasm. Their friends are
falling to their deaths.
The group brainstorms
and finally Haas summons 3 Great Eagles which dive down to catch the
falling three. The eagles manage to get Cobalt and Saren to a
ledge and slow Lennie until he reaches the bottom, which turns out
to be miles down. Haas Windwalks himself, Solaris, and Ajax
and they begin to descend. Claude uses his powers to float
down. They see Cobalt and Saren, and Solaris is able to tell
them what is happening. They reach the bottom, find Lennie,
and scout a short distance before waiting. Claude reaches
Cobalt and Saren, gives them a potion and makes his way down.
Finally, after more than an hour of prayer, Colbalt is able to use
his spells and Claude's potion to slide down the rock and reach the
At the bottom, the
Windwalk dissipates and the other realize that their most powerful
spells and weakest magical items do not function. Cobalt
confirms that the deep underdark is 'blessed of Drunnbar'. The
group decides to camp and pray. Solaris learns that they are
still heading towards their prey.
The next morning, the
group follows the running footsteps it heard earlier. After
hours of walking, they enter a cavern. Solaris detects an evil
presence and the group spreads out. Immediately they are
attacked by strands of stone. Quickly, Lennie, Claude, and
Cobalt are weakened and dropped. They others fight to defend
themselves from the creatures, who Solaris knows t be Ropers.
After a harrowing minute, Haas, Solaris, Ajax, and Saren are
surrounded by the creatures, but mostly protected from their
weakening. Solaris crushes the largest of them and Haas shakes
the ground causing another three to tumble. As they fight,
Claude sees a figure move up to Cobalt and kill him. Saren
sees that same figure a moment late approach Lennie. He tries,
but is unable to stop the figure from nearly killing Lennie, only
his Phoenix tattoo saves him. The figure, surprised by
Lennie's survival, and with Ajax and Solaris know aware of it,
rushes out of the cavern. Still engaged with half of the more
than dozen Ropers, the others are forced to stay and defeat the
Session 11: Last of the Illithids (30 Baston Sun 784 to 3 Coustus 785)
After destroying the
Ropers, Haas immediately begins to pray for spells. Ajax and
Saren search around and find that the creature is watching them from
down the eastern tunnel. Ajax attacks it with a searing light
and it flees again. Saren collects a variety of gems from the
remains of the Ropers. When Haas is done, he restores
everyone's strength. He plans to attempt to Reincarnate Cobalt
the next day by traveling up the chasm wall in air form. The
group sleeps uneventfully.
After waking, they
all return to the bottom of the chasm. Haas, Lennie, and
Solaris attempt Haas' plan to bring back Cobalt. After
air-walking up the wall, the reincarnation fails. Haas
determines that the assassin used a blessing that prevents Cobalt
from being brought back. They entomb Cobalt after removing two
of his items and return back to the bottom. Once there, the
group, with only Claude hesitating, decides to continue to follow
The group goes
through the eastern tunnel out of the Ropers' cave. Lennie is
forced to crawl through it. After three days more of travel,
mainly along the floor of another chasm, they come to a crevasse
into which the footprints of the assassin lead. After
traveling down that tunnel they come to a perpendicular tunnel which
appears to have once been a sewer or stream that is now filled with
damp sludge and mud. Solaris and Ajax, unaffected by such
things walk through. Lennie carries Haas, while Claude gets
himself and Saren across.
They come to a ladder
up and when Solaris looks up, he sees an Illithid. After
commanding the creature to stop, he attacks it with a searing light
and it flees. The others come up the ladder and make their way
towards two open doors. The come into the beginning of an
Illithid complex. Most of the rooms are empty, but the find
one living dwarf in a pit. They take him out and heal him,
although he does not awaken. Moving farther in, they find a
large room with an empty pit in the center. As they make their
way across the room, Ajax and Solaris are trapped in a box of force.
The others are charged by three Illithids who come out of one of the
three closed doors in the room.
Lennie is stunned and
is unable to fight. The others fend off the creatures with the
aid of Solaris' spells from inside the box. Ajax uses his
light to harm the creatures, but then starts to look for a way out
of the box. While inside, Solaris is attacked mentally again
and again. They others are assaulted by crystals and mental
attacks as well as the Illithids.
Claude is stunned,
but awoken by Haas. Haas is stunned and awoken by Claude.
Saren fends off the Illithid. Solaris causes a holy rain to
fall over the battle. Ajax spots slits in the wall where the
attacks must be and Claude destroys the slits with a lightning bolt.
The battle appears to be turning the group's way when the assassin
tumbles in a takes off one of Saren's legs at the knee. Claude
tries to disable the assassin and fails, but disorients the last
Illithid, allowing Saren to kill it even with one leg. The
Assassin flees down the empty pit as Ajax tries to summon a mighty
agent of Stasis. Haas roars a prayer into the tunnel which the
group can see and drives off two Illithid. The box collapses
and Solaris and Ajax are freed.
Ajax charges down the
hall and kills dozens of Illithis he finds. The others find a
tunnel at the bottom of the pit, but do not explore it. After
waking everyone, they start to search. An Illithid comes to
them and begs for mercy. Solaris grants it. Another one,
begin chased by Ajax, falls upon Solaris' mercy as well, despite
Ajax wishes to slay it.
Solaris Shows one of
the Illithid the light of Hemator and commands it to aid the group.
Session 12: (3 Coustus 785 to 5 Coustus)
They question the
Illithids and learn that the complex was attacked by dwarves and
most of the Illithid killed. Their conscious that lead them
was destroyed as well. The Illithid named Ri was the first
that they talked to and he tells them that there is one other dwarf
in the complex. A youngling that was used to clean tight
spaces. Ajax gets angry and scares away the second Illithid,
who makes a desparate attempt to flee and likely kills himself going
to another plane. Ri tells the group about the Illithid's
encounters with the drow, and how he helped them in exchange for
information about the area.
The group retires to
a rest room in the Illithid complex. They discuss what to do
next as Ajax searches for the other dwarven slave. They
finally are able to awaken the first dwarf and talk with him.
He was part of a large group of Sledgehammer Dwarves led by Prince
Reikbarr and his paladin ally that hunted down and destroyed all of
the Illithid in the mountains several years ago. He was
captured and questioned and kept alive for reasons unknown to him.
Ri confirms this story and says that he was going to be used as a
bargaining chip if the dwarves returned.
The group searches
the room and Saren finds some gems and robes among the belongings of
the Illithid that stayed here. When Ajax returns, he is
accompanied by a glowing human figure that introduces himself as
Camet Gemblade, the Forge of Paladia. He was summoned by Ajax
during the battle with the Illithid, by appeared far above due to
the magical depression. He finally found Ajax and offered his
help. Ajax is also carrying a dead dwarf, the other slave.
The group decides to have Camet take the dwarf and Saren out of the
caves. They will continue, with Ri in tow to walk towards the
surface. Saren bids them farewell and good luck. He will
meet Solaris' allies in the Rosetree forest.
After a night of rest
and prayer, they leave. Guided by Hemator, they look for a way
out. Ay the end of the first day of travel, Haas receives a
message from Deskertan, the drow they are chasing. Haas
responds to the challenge and name calling with some of his own and
the group continues. After two hours of travel they see a
hanging corpse ahead of them. It turns out to be a dead dwarf
with the number 50 carved into him. They assume it is another
cleric of Tyrogatore. They come into a large smooth domed
cavern with a stream. Ajax sees a lone figure standing on the
other side, 2000 feet away. He calls to it and is responded to
with a challenge by the drow. After minutes of discussion and
banter, the group moves toward the drow. As soon as Solaris is
close enough, he attempts to hold the drow. It fails and the
group is set upon by a massive winged form the descends from above,
Lennie and Ri flee
immediately, the other are knocked to the ground, accept the
floating Claude. The dragon unleashes a spray of acid which
burns Haas and Ajax badly; Claude and Solaris appear immune.
Ajax decides to chase after the drow, Claude follows suit.
Haas retreats and prays to Tyrogatore. Solaris faces the
dragon alone. The dragon keeps him at bay and bites him.
Solaris prays for blessings and begins a holy rain, which harms the
dragon and protects him.
Ajax and Claude soon
realize that they cannot catch the drow and return to fight the
dragon. The dragon fends them off, but cannot kill any of them
as they also fail to do much damage to it other than the constant
barrage of searing light from Ajax, Solaris, and Haas.
Finally, the dragon withdraws towards the drow, who has nearly
intercepted the fleeing Lennie. The group rushes to aid their
friend, but the dragon and drow are much faster. They descend
on Lennie and tear him apart, killing Lennie. The dragon
blocks their way as the drow prepares to curse Lennie so that he may
never return. Claude moving the fastest and invisible to the
dragon reaches the drow before he is able to complete his spell.
The drow attacks Claude once and flees. The dragon, who has
enchanted itself awaits the attacks. Ajax and it fight, and as
it appear Ajax will be defeated, Claude revives Lennie who attacks
from behind. The dragon is again forced to withdraw.
They attack it with searing lights, but it circles high in the
cavern, keeping away. Claude, still unable to be seen by it,
flies into its path and miraculously drives his sword into the badly
wounded dragon. It dies and spirals to the ground, luckily
landing before Claude.
They are not able to
find a way to keep Lennie alive, and minutes later, he dies.
Session 13: (5 Coustus 785 to 23 Smofena 785)
The group waits in
the cavern to rest. Ri returns after two hours. They
commune, carve up the dragon's corpse, bury Lennie, and discuss
plans. Haas speaks with the dragon's spirit and learns that
the drow keeps some clerics of Tyrogatore with him somehow.
They decide that they will continue along whichever paths leads up
and try to get out of the underdark. Ri does not believe the
dragon's lair is nearby, so they do not go looking for it.
Haas prays to uncover the location of the drow, but the prayers
Several days on the
path out of the underdark, the group finds itself on a ledge for a
short distance. Solaris wisely waits until they are all
blessed with airwalking until they cross. Sure enough, they
are attacked by giant lizards on the ledge. While they defeat
the beast without many injuries, except to Ri who is nearly killed,
the beasts throw much of their supplies into the chasm. They
continue on, encounter only small creatures for days. They are
attacked by a swarm of spiders, which are quickly destroyed.
Finally, they come across some dwarven shepherds. They are
able to determine how far they are from the surface and are able to
buy food and a rothe for Ri to eat.
Another week of
travel passes. The group runs into a hunting party of dwarves.
They are led by a cleric of Drunnbar that knows of Cobalt. The
dwarves agree to take the group to the surface. Once there,
the cleric points out the closet town, named Cergoyle and inhabited
mainly by gargoyles. They are under the protection, and
considered part of, the dwarven kingdom of Nomagrok. The group
thanks the dwarves and they leave. Before traveling to the
town, Haas tries to Reincarnate Lennie. Despite his best
prayers, Lennie does not appear the next morning.
The group Airwalks to
the town. They spend time flying as the wind around the town
getting a feel for what is there. They spot the arena, which
serves as the shrine to Tyrogatore, and after some more scouting,
that is where they land. They meet Krilk, the Gargoyle cleric.
He knows of Cobalt and his mission and is angry to hear of his
death. He tells the group that is is the last cleric of note,
and he has been told by Tyrogatore to wait for the drow to come to
him. He offers the group a place to stay, as they decide the
best plan is to wait for the drow as well.
A month passes.
Session 14: (23 Smofena 785)
During the month,
Claude spends a lot of time speaking with several Gargoyles who are
experts in different fields. A sorcerer named Grint trades
items with him. Ajax retrieves Brightsoul from Port Springs
using several windwalks. Solaris continues to evangelize to Ri.
One day, the Gargoyle
cleric of Dedestroyt asks them to come out of the shrine of
Tyrogatore. When they do, they are confronted with an empty
street and the Stalker of the Dead, Vistrani Fell. He demands
Solaris, who promptly flees via planar travel. Ajax and Haas
prepare to face the Stalker. Haas proposes a deal, his life if
the Stalker will help find and kill Deskarten. The Stalker
counters, Haas life and promise that he will never again aid Solaris
and that cause in exchange for the Stalker's help. Haas
agrees. The Stalker offers Ajax a similar deal; never walk
with Solaris again in exchange for help finding the drow.
Ajax, after consulting with the powers of Stasis, agree.
Solaris hears of the
deals while on the plane of Hemator, and decides to go to Pacyr.
