Behind the Scenes

Habololy Main

Arishimoto Udanaru

"Growing up immersed in the faith of Quan-Yin at the High Temple in Tas-tio-Horari had the opposite effect on Ari than what his parents had intended.  Both his parents led the quiet, peaceful lives expected of them as faithful servants of the Matriarchy, his mother a high ranking priestess of the Birthmother and his father a well-respected secular historian. Ari was the youngest of seven children, but unlike his well-behaved siblings, his adventurous spirit, strong will, and curiosity were apparent even from a very young age, much to the dismay of his parents. "Sit still", "be quiet", and "don't touch that" were all very popular and frequently spoken phrases in the Udanaru household during Ari's youth.

As he grew older, Ari proved himself time and time again as an embarrassment to his family, getting caught sneaking around 'off-limit' areas of the High Temple, getting into fights with schoolyard bullies, and wandering off on his own to explore nearby islands.  The breaking point for his parents came when Ari was 16, when he was found in a row boat on the sea several miles from home, headed to an island that was rumored to have haunted caverns hidden beneath the temple to Quan-Yin that was there.  Infuriated and ashamed by his recklessness and disobedience, Ari's parents made the decision to ship him off to school in Icefia, where his antics could not hurt the social standing of his family. Ari, frustrated with the constant oppression by his family and the faith of Quan-Yin, put up little resistance.

Ari's first semester at the Bardic College of Icefia was liberating; he relished the independence to act however and learn whatever he wished.  He took a great interest in learning about new religions, new places, and other worlds.  Here he became a true believer in the religion of Tfop, embracing the faith's credo that tenacity and drive can overcome any odds. It was here that he learned of the works of the Guardian Temple in Icefia, and was awed by their selflessness and devotion in combating the forces of evil and the unspeakable horrors of the infernal and abyssal planes. After several years of study, Ari emerged from the College with purpose and the desire to do his part for the good of Habololy.

Ari is typically pleasant and charming, but those around him can sometimes become frustrated by his eternally optimistic attitude.  He believes that any foe can be overcome given the right mix of brains, brawn, and luck.  Ari dabbles in alchemy, partially out of respect to Tfop and partially out of boredom during downtime.  He was recently blessed by Tfop with the aid of Astrek, a celestial dire badger, whose pragmatic stubbornness balances out Ari's idealistic, easy-going nature.

Tactics:

Ari enters combat enthusiastically, particularly against evil outsiders and opponents with tainted souls. His optimism has sometimes gotten him in over his head, but he is smart enough to know when he's beat and will reluctantly withdraw if over matched. Ari wields dual short swords in a style that is loosely based on the Shardykn path of the Bladelords of the Guardian Temple. He always attempts to utilize his inherent creativity in combat to gain the upper hand.
